About us

Hi! We're Hope and Florence, and together we are lovebug + worm. We make experimental, accessible and collaborative forms of theatre for young audiences. Working with physical theatre, dance and oral storytelling, often featuring live music, we explore and encourage the fantastical, silly, absurd and delightful reimaginings of everyday things. We believe there are as many worlds as there are people and we want to explore as many of those worlds as we can by engaging with our young audiences as artists in their own right, as active co-collaborators and participants.

We've made shows about lots of different things. We often find it hard to pick one idea because everything feels so exciting! We're especially moved by stories about dreams and friendship, and about how we can do our best to care for things, for human and non-human beings, for real creatures and imagined ones. Our main goal is to make sure you feel welcome, from start to finish, and  to find the balance between:

-feeling the thrill of the theatre, and all its surprise and wonder 

and 

-feeling comfortable and safe - and it's our job to build that trust with you so you can just relax, be yourself and enjoy the show.

That's why we love to meet our audiences before the show properly starts, whether it be having a wee chat while you get settled in your seat and take in your surroundings, or through a creative workshop.

 

Working in participatory arts as facilitators and community art/drama workers, we have led workshops and projects with/for children and young people in collaboration with Lyra, Citizens Theatre, Home Start, Ayr Gaiety Theatre, Imaginate, Toonspeak, One Ren, 21 Common, the Village Storytelling Centre, Cove Park, University of Glasgow, and Platform, as well as primary schools across Greater Glasgow, Edinburgh, Kinross, Inverness and Paisley. Our child-led and care-focused approach is at the heart of everything we do and is intertwined with our ambition to create high quality, playful, energetic and innovative children’s theatre, which every child should have access to.
